The Line
Josh sat on the edge of the hospital bed,
fiddling with the straps on his
backpack, unable to make himself leave.
"Josh, you'll miss your plane,"
Donna said as she reached to still his
hands. He nodded and stood up slowly, making
sure not to jostle her leg.
"It's not fair," he whined, his
voice filled with exhaustion and fear.
"Leo's given you longer than we thought

Donna said, reaching for his hand. She pulled
him back down and kissed him
softly, forgetting for a moment the line
they'd spent years trying to toe.
